FPV drone net launcher: how the interception system works
21.09.2026

An FPV drone net launcher is an add-on physical interception system. The FPV platform carries the device into the required area, while the deployed net creates a mechanical obstacle for another unmanned aircraft. It does not replace detection, electronic warfare, shelters, or organisational measures; it is one layer in a broader counter-UAS system.
What is an FPV drone net launcher?
The FPV drone acts as the carrier. A net launcher and its activation mechanism are mounted on the airframe, while the operator controls the platform through its regular control and video links. Once activated, the net opens in front of the carrier and may restrict moving parts of the target.
Unlike a handheld launcher, the system can be moved through the air. The added equipment, however, increases total weight, changes the centre of gravity, and may affect flight time and manoeuvrability. Compatibility must therefore be assessed for the exact build, not merely for an “FPV drone” in general.
How physical interception works
The operator first receives air-situation information from observation or separate detection equipment. The FPV platform then moves into a suitable interception area. After activation, the net deploys and may mechanically restrict the target.
The result depends on target size and speed, the relative position of both aircraft, weather, operator training, and equipment condition. A net launcher must not be presented as guaranteeing interception in every case.
What to check before installation
Check at least the following:
- payload capacity with the battery and other installed equipment;
- mounting position and its effect on the centre of gravity;
- mount compatibility with the frame;
- available power and activation interface;
- aircraft behaviour after changes in weight and aerodynamics.
Physical attachment alone is not enough. The aircraft must remain controllable and the activation channel predictable. Final compatibility should be confirmed for the complete configuration.
Ptashka FPV net launcher specifications
The Ptashka Drones FPV system manual lists the following specifications:
| Parameter | Value |
|---|---|
| Net size | 3.7 × 3.7 m |
| Dimensions | 135 × 80 × 85 mm |
| Loaded system weight | 450 g |
| Calibre | 9 × 21 mm blank |
| Power and cable | Onboard 5 V; standard servo cable |
| Launch distance | 1–10 m |
| Deployment and activation | 4–10 m, approximately 7 m optimal; Servo output |
The manual explicitly lists 7- and 10-inch Mark 4v2 platforms. Other platforms are available by request. Two frames of the same nominal size can use different motors, batteries, layouts, and thrust reserves, so these specifications do not replace a configuration check.

Information needed for a compatibility check
Prepare the exact FPV configuration: frame size, motors, propellers, battery, estimated ready-to-fly weight, available auxiliary-control method, and information about other installed modules.
The team will also need to check thrust reserve, mounting position, possible obstruction of the camera or antennas, the activation channel, and the tests required before operator use.
FPV, Mavic/Autel, or handheld launcher
The FPV version uses a manoeuvrable platform and a flight-controller Servo output. The system for DJI Mavic 3 and adapted Autel/Matrice platforms has a different weight and is activated through the compatible aircraft’s spotlight control. A handheld launcher requires no carrier drone but follows a different operating concept and training requirements.
These solutions are not interchangeable. Selection depends on the available platform, operating conditions, permitted payload, and team preparation.View all net launchers.
Limitations and safety
After contact with the net, an unmanned aircraft may lose control and fall, while a hazardous payload may remain active. The potential fall area, risks to people and infrastructure, and post-interception procedures must be assessed in advance.
Only trained personnel should use the system. Equipment must be checked in accordance with the manufacturer’s documentation and the unit’s internal procedures. A net launcher also does not provide detection:RF detection, electronic warfare, and physical protection serve different roles.
Frequently asked questions
Does the system fit every FPV drone?
No. Compatibility depends on payload capacity, layout, mounting, power, and the activation method of the exact platform.
How is the launcher activated?
The FPV system manual specifies activation through a Servo output on the flight controller. The exact implementation must be confirmed for the selected build.
How does the FPV version differ from the Mavic/Autel system?
They differ in weight, net size, and activation method. The FPV version weighs 450 g and uses a Servo output; the DJI Mavic 3 system weighs 350 g and is activated through spotlight control.
Does a net launcher replace electronic warfare?
No. They use different principles and may complement each other as separate layers of protection.
How can compatibility be confirmed?
Send Ptashka Drones the exact FPV platform configuration. The team will check weight, layout, mounting, and activation channel and recommend the appropriate option.
